Visitors to Glen Burnie, located on Amherst Street in historic Winchester, an easy and scenic drive not far from The Plains, discover a 25 acre wonderland of gardens – including pattern gardens, rose gardens, perennial, herb and formal vegetable gardens. Glen Burnie also boasts a Chinese and water garden, as well as sculptures, fountains, the family cemetery, and garden pavilion furnished with antiques. Docents lead guided tours of the house that belonged to Winchester founder Col. James Wood. Filled with paintings, Waterford chandeliers, sterling silver, porcelain and ceramics and fine antiques collected by Julian Wood Glass Jr. Open April 1 – October 31st 10-4 pm; however, year-round group tours are available by advance appointment.
