Manassas Civil War Battlefield

Bull Run Battlefield set the stage for decisive fighting during the Civil War, when north and south clashed in two conflicts in 1861. More recently, the site of the First and Second Manassas Bull Run Battles sparked a furious controversy over their development as a Disney Theme Park. A major fight ensued when the Piedmont Environmental Council and the Disney Corporation reenacted the Battles of Bull Run. Local forces of environmentalists and preservationists triumphed, and the Manassas National Battlefield Park continues to draw visitors from all over the world to walk and drive its hallowed battlegrounds. The Stonewall Jackson Memorial with its spectacular views from Henry Hill is one of the most popular monuments in the park.

In addition to the walking and driving tours, equestrians have their own set of bridle paths throughout the hallowed historic ground of the Bull Run Battlefields. Manassas National Battlefield Park is only a short drive from the Grey Horse Inn, located conveniently near Rt. 66 in The Plains, home of the Virginia Gold Cup, Wine Festival and Friday Twilight Polo at the Great Meadow Events Center.
