MIDDLEBURG, VA

Middleburg, just north of The Plains, became a tourist and paparazzi attraction when the First Family of Camelot, former President John and Jackie Kennedy began to spend time at their country getaway in the turbulent 1960s. Jackie rode to hounds with packs in the area, such as Middleburg Hunt and Orange County Hunt. In fact, Marshall Hawkins carved some immortality for his sporting photography when he captured on film the First Lady falling off her horse at a fence out in the hunting field.

Middleburg features art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, inns and steeplechase racing at nearby Glenwood Park and locally sponsored Point-to-points. The annual calendar also boasts Garden Week, the Virginia Hunt Country Stable Tour, the Middleburg Garden Tour, Civil War Weekend, the Christmas Shop, Arts & Crafts Show, the Garden Club Christmas Greens Show, and Christmas in Middleburg.
